Lawn and Garden Landscaping
Lawn and garden landscaping is always a work in progress and has
often been likened to painting a picture, except that the picture is never done.
The reason for this is simple; a well kept landscape is an always evolving and
growing entity. Many people see their lawn and garden as an extension of their
home and as such put a great deal of time and effort not only designing but also
maintaining it. The end result it a landscape that is not only pleasing to
behold and be in, but it also adds aesthetic value to their property.
But for many just getting started is the main problem. It is very easy to be
overwhelmed with the vast variety of choices there are when it comes to
designing and implementing a landscape plan. Because of this many people turn to
a landscape architect or designer to help them bring their landscape vision to
life. This of course will cost more but having a professional design your
landscape is a good way to get the most out of your lawn and garden.
For those who don't want to pay for professional services doing it yourself is a
great way to get the lawn and garden you have always wanted. But where does the
do-it-yourselfer start?
The lawn is usually the best place to start planning. Stand back and just look
at the wide expanse of lawn and build a rough picture in your head of what you
might like your landscape to eventually look like. Take note of where trees
already exist and where new trees may add to the landscape. Try to get a feel
for the way the lawn flows, this can give an idea of where to put flower lined
paths that lead to the vegetable garden and/or water garden.
While doing the initial plan it is good to decide how formal the landscape plan
is going to be. A formal plan will consist of straight paths and flower planting
beds, with corners or intersections being at right angles. The plants and
flowers are grouped by species and colors with very little variation.
An informal plan is the exact opposite of the formal plan and tends to look like
there was little planning involved when it came to designing and planting the
lawn and garden. Of course this may be perfectly acceptable to many people but
for the vast majority of do it yourself landscapers a combination of a formal
and informal is a great way to go. A lawn and garden landscape plan should
mirror the personality and temperament of its keeper, which is one reason the
look and feel of the landscape can change with the whims of its designer.
In the end a lawn and garden landscape should be a fun and enjoyable experience.
As it evolves you will learn more and more about all aspects of lawn and garden
care. Part of this learning journey can easily be facilitated right from your
computer. The internet holds a wealth of information on this subject for
everyone from the novice to the master gardener. If you don't have a green thumb
the best way to get it growing is to just jump in and start planting and see
what happens.
